THE SUM OF ITS PARTS

MAY 2 - 3

6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Jason Stillman

is a contemporary sculptor, painter, and collage artist. His collages are known for their vibrant and intricate compositions that use traditional collage elements as the “paint”, rather than as direct imagery, creating and engaging visual style. Stillman’s work explores themes of the human form and the things and objects in our world through unexpected juxtapositions with a constant experimentation of images made from other images.

Stillman’s collage work is influenced by a diverse range of artistic movements and practitioners, and in particular, the unlikely combination of realism with abstract expressionism, where the realism of the whole is made from its more abstract components. He draws inspiration from the rich history of collage and assemblage, while also exploring new and innovative ways to engage with the medium.

Through dynamic collage work, Stillman invites the viewer to explore the complexities of the composition and construction of the subject matter, and to engage with the medium of collage in new and unexpected ways.
