ARLINGTON HEIGHTS

PLEIN AIR FESTIVAL

WHAT

Plein Air painting or drawing in any medium created outdoors from direct observation of the subject matter. Registered artists can submit up to three pieces for consideration for the exhibition no later than September 11th at noon.

Artists who participate in the Farmers Market Paint-Off Event are welcome to submit four total pieces for the exhibition.

All artwork submitted for the exhibition must be framed and ready to hang with a wire on the back.

WHERE

Artwork must be created on-site from observation within the boundaries of Arlington Heights (60004/60005)

Artwork will be displayed at The Empty Corner, located at 214 E. Grove St.

REGISTRATION

Each artist must pay a $40 registration fee. Participants that are under 18 do not have to pay the registration fee. Each participating artist must complete the online registration form HERE.

STAMPING

Registered Artists must pick up their packet of registration materials from The Empty Corner (214 E. Grove Street, AH) on Tuesday, September 2nd between 10 AM - 6 PM. All canvases/boards/papers that will be used for the final submission must be stamped at The Empty Corner. We do NOT supply canvases or paper. Stamping for the Farmers Market event will take place the morning of the market.

EXHIBITION

A juried exhibition of artwork will be on display at The Empty Corner from September 12th to September 21st.

An Opening Reception will take place at The Empty Corner from 7-9 PM on Friday, September 12th.

Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place entries chosen by our panel of three judges.

People’s Choice Award for the Farmer’s Market event will be announced at the Opening Reception on September 12th.

SALES

Artists may make their artwork available for sale through the exhibition at The Empty Corner; no commission will be taken for artwork sold through the exhibition.


GENERAL FESTIVAL & EXHIBITION

SEPTEMBER 2ND - SEPTEMBER 21ST

Between September 2nd and September 11th artists can create up to 3 pieces (or 4 pieces, if involved in the Farmer’s Market Event).

Submitted art must be made in any outdoor area within the 60004/60005 area.

Stamping will take place on September 2nd at The Empty Corner between 10 AM - 6 PM.

The drop off date for finished work is September 11th between 10 AM - 12 PM

Opening Reception on Friday, September 12th from 7-9 PM

FARMERS MARKET PAINT-OFF

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH

PAINTING HOURS 8 AM - 10:30 AM

PUBLIC VOTING 10:30 AM - 12 PM

Join us for a special paint-off challenge at the Arlington Heights Farmers Market! Get your canvas stamped at 8 AM at our Empty Corner booth and quickly create a painting that embodies the spirit of the AH Farmer’s Market!

Finished paintings will be displayed at the tent beginning at 10:30 AM and voted on by the public. Artists will retrieve their pieces from the booth at 12 PM.

Those participating in this event will be allowed to bring in their Farmers Market painting alongside their other three pieces on the drop-off date, September 11th.

The winner will receive a cash prize and will be announced at our opening reception on Friday, September 12th.

Participation in this special event costs and additional $5.

NOCTURNAL PAINT & SIP SOCIAL EVENT

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH

6 PM - 9 PM

This casual get-together is an opportunity to get to know other Plein Air artists and try your hand at nocturnal painting! Location TBD, and all are welcome!

BUSINESS SPONSOR PURCHASE AWARDS

A list of participating businesses will be given to interested artists during stamping. These specific businesses will purchase a piece of artwork highlighting their business at a predetermined price.


Questions?

  • We will NOT be providing canvas or paper. Please bring in your own materials to be stamped!

  • Please bring in your canvases/materials you will be working on to be stamped by a team member on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND. Pieces without the stamp will not be allowed or placed in the show. This stamp allows us to know that your pieces were created within the given time frame the festival takes place.

  • Please drop off up to 3 stamped pieces (4 allowed if participating in the Farmer’s Market event- 4th piece MUST be the one created during Farmer’s Market event) between 10 AM - 12 PM on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11TH.

  • This will be a juried show. Winners will receive prizes at the end of the Opening Reception.

  • The Opening Reception will take place on Friday, SEPTEMBER 12th between 7 PM and 9 PM. Join us to see who the winners are!

  • A rule we will be firm on this year is that pieces must be created OUTDOORS. Pieces portraying an indoor scene will not be accepted.
